SALTILLO, Mississippi – RW Collective, a furniture and accessory supplier encompassing a range of brands, has acquired Mississippi-based upholstery manufacturer Bauhaus Furniture. The acquisition allowed Bauhaus to stay in operation, as the company announced last week it would go out of business.
RW Collective says for years it has sought the right opportunity to expand U.S. manufacturing, complementing its case goods factory and production in Indonesia. Having already partnered with Bauhaus on the retail and wholesale side, the acquisition was a natural fit, officials said, allowing it to expand its product offering, reduce lead times and increase its customization capabilities.
With this addition, the company will now domestically produce more categories, such as upholstered beds and dining chairs, with greater efficiency.
“This is an exciting milestone for The RW Collective,” said CEO Michael Carey. “Bringing manufacturing back to the U.S. has been a long-term goal, and Bauhaus presented the perfect opportunity. Its skilled craftsmanship, quality production and logistics expertise will have an immediate positive impact on our ability to serve customers.”
This acquisition is not just about business growth, Carey continued, “it’s also about preserving jobs and investing in the future.”
As reported earlier, Bauhaus employees learned they were losing their jobs last Friday and that the company would shutter its doors the next Monday. By Monday morning, Carey says 100% of them were back at work under RW Collective ownership.
As part of the deal, The RW Collective says it has committed to producing the Bauhaus furniture line “while working diligently to strengthen its relationships with both current customers and vendors.”
“This acquisition strengthens our position in the industry while reinforcing our commitment to domestic manufacturing,” said COO Rebekah Osborn. “It allows us to build on an already strong foundation and provide a better, faster, and more flexible supply chain for our partners.”
Established in Northeast Mississippi in 1989, Bauhaus builds upholstered furniture across more than 200,000-square-feet of factory space in Saltillo, Miss. Furniture ranges from transitional to casual to contemporary, with sofas, sectionals and occasional chairs. Items are available in hundreds of fabric options and can be shipped in four weeks or less.
The RW Collective encompasses a portfolio of brands including Atelier Home, Beyond Borders Furniture Co., Southern Sky Home, Padma’s Plantation, Jes & Gray Living, Rockford Trading Company, Threads Republic and Bed Tech. It will showcase its latest collection at the spring High Point Market, April 26-30, at its showroom at 156 S. Main St.
